Krieger goes 90 minutes in 4-0 defeat of Canada at Four Nations

16 Jan, 2008

Northern Virginia native and former Washington Freedom player Ali Krieger got her first cap in a starting role for the United States Women\'s team early this morning in China. In their first game of the [nearly] annual Four Nations Tournament, the U.S. women cruised to a 4-0 win over North American neighbors Canada. Amy Rodriguez started along side Abby Wambach for the first time, with former reserve forward Heath O\'Reilly out on the wing. "Hea-O" was at the rear of all four goals, with three direct assists. Krieger started at right back, but was moved to central defense after fellow debutante Becky Sauerbrunn broke her nose on the back of a Candadian player\'s head and had to be substituted in the 64th minute.

The second match day of the tournament on Friday, January 18, will feature China against Canada followed by the USA taking on Finland (4:30 p.m. local / 3:30 a.m. ET).
