Papciak leads Towson women to scoreless draw against Saint Louis

27 Aug, 2010

Junior goalkeeper Jocelyn Papciak (Atholton H.S./Columbia, Md.) earned the third shutout of her college career by making five saves as Towson University (0-1-1) posted a scoreless draw against Saint Louis University (0-1-2) in the opening match of the Duquesne Classic at Rooney Field on Friday afternoon.

It was the first-ever meeting between the two teams in women’s soccer.

“We played a very good game against a tough opponent today,” Towson Coach Greg Paynter said. “We didn’t have the extra entry ball that we needed up top today, but we were able to play well against a good Saint Louis team.

“It was a group effort today to get the shutout, but Jocelyn certainly did her part, especially in distributing the ball and organizing the defense.”

The Billikens outshot the Tigers by a commanding 15-4 margin, including a 7-3 edge in the first half. Papciak recorded four of her five saves in the opening 45 minutes.
Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Walsh (Whitfield H.S./Chesterfield, Mo.) made one save for the Billikens, who played in their second consecutive scoreless tie.

The Tigers, who are in the middle of a nine-game road trip, will face Duquesne University on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Duquesne Classic.

“It is a quick turnaround for us, so we need to get healthy and get our bodies to recover,” Coach Paynter said. “From a tactical and technical standpoint, we are in good shape. But, we need to get rest for our bodies.”
