George Mason men come from behind to beat Wright State, 3-2
25 Aug, 2010George Mason erased a 2-0 first-half deficit to defeat Wright State by a final score of 3-2 in exhibition men’s soccer action on Tuesday evening at George Mason Stadium. Senior Parker Walton scored all three goals for the Patriots.
Wright State took a 2-0 lead into the half but the Raiders were unable to contain Walton in the second half. The senior scored his first goal on a breakaway off a nicely placed through ball from sophomore Alhagi Toure.
The equalizer came when freshman Hugh Roberts found Walton open in the middle of the field. Walton reared back and blasted the ball into the back of the net from 25 yards out to tie the contest at two. Walton scored the game-winner off a penalty kick late in the match.
The Patriots play one more exhibition contest before beginning the regular season on Wednesday, Sept. 1 against George Washington in the D.C. College Cup hosted by American University. Mason’s exhibition schedule concludes with a match against defending national champion Virginia on Saturday.
