Navy women tie Presbyterian College 2-2

22 Aug, 2010

Junior Katelyn George\'s goal in the 87th minute capped visiting Navy\'s (0-1-1) comeback to secure a 2-2 double-overtime draw with Presbyterian College (0-1-1) in women\'s soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Martin Stadium.

After falling behind early 2-0, Navy regrouped to put two goals on the board in the second half to salvage the tie.

Presbyterian first got on the board in the eighth minute when a cross from Melanie Martin deflected off a Navy player into the net, resulting in an own goal for the Mids.

The Blue Hose increased their lead to 2-0 in the 18th minute when Kate Baker received the ball heading towards goal and drew the Navy goalkeeper away from the net. Baker then made a move around the keeper and kicked the ball into the empty net.

Senior Christine Calderon netted her second goal of the season in the 59th minute when she redirected a ball played into the box by sophomore Fallon Puppolo.

Trailing 2-1 with time running out, Puppolo played a corner kick to George in front of the net, which the third-year defender headed in for a goal to send the game into overtime just three minutes later.

The Mids outshot the Blue hose 6-1 in the two overtime periods but could not capitalize with the game-winner. Navy took 37 shots (19 shots on goal) in the game, the most taken by the team since it registered 41 against Mount St. Mary\'s in 1998.
