Tim Howard sets shut-out record for Everton, FA Cup Final next goal

11 May, 2009

U.S. National Team goalkeeper Tim Howard has set a team record for shut-outs by a goalkeeper for English club Everton FC. The 0-0 draw against Tottenham not only clinched a spot in next year's newly-named Europa League (formerly UEFA Cup) for his team, but also gave the New York native 16 clean sheets with two games to go in the Premier League season (Hosting West Ham - May, 9 and at Fulham May 24).

Assistant Manager Steve Round is proud of his keeper, but also credits the team as a whole, telling the Associated Press "He is a fantastic 'keeper, but it has as much to do with the quality of our defense that we have kept so many clean sheets."

While Howard must be proud of his personal accomplishment, his mind would certainly be on bigger things. Everton are set to play the FA Cup Final against Chelsea on May 30th, an honor the "other" team from Liverpool earned with an impressive season of domestic cup compeition, the highlight of which was their recent penalty shoot out win over Manchester United, in which Howard again was the star.
