Ask The Ref: Porto goal vs Arsenal, was the ref to blame or the goalkeeper?

17 Feb, 2010

It has been too long since our last "Ask The Ref", but boy do we have a good one now. Hopefully the video stays live for this, and isn\'t pulled from youtube by some TV rights holder somewhere.

Here are the questions for this one. And thanks to the addition of our new "comments" feature at the bottom of each article, you don\'t have to go over to our discussion boards to give you opinion.

Question X: Was it a back pass worthy of call by the referee? This is question "X" because this video does not show the back pass. However, the debate on the internet mostly says it was not a deliberate pass. If you\'ve seen the "pass", please comment.

Question 1: Should the referee have taken the ball from the Arsenal GK so quickly and set it down for Porto without giving Arsenal a chance to understand the call?

Question 2: Should the referee have purposefully delayed the restart until Arsenal had a chance to defend themselves?

Question 3 (this not ask the ref, it\'s ask the goalkeeper): Should the Arsenal goalkeeper have been the one to delay the restart by not handing the ball to the referee so quickly?
