Maryland USL-2 derby to be a Mother's Day treat

7 May, 2009

This Saturday, May 9th Real Maryland FC will host in-state rival Crystal Palace Baltimore at Richard Montgomery High School at 6 pm.  In honor of Mother’s Day Weekend, Real Maryland FC is allowing FREE admission to all mothers who take their child to the game.

The Monarchs look to bounce back after a hard fought defeat to the Riverhounds 2-1 this past weekend in Pittsburgh.  Though the score did not yield any points on the road, the Monarchs took another step in growing together as a team.

“Obviously, we are disappointed with the loss,” said Coach Hudson.  “But, there were many positives that were taken from the game.  We are looking forward to this weekend’s game.”

The first half would see the two defenses play to perfection. Yendry Diaz of the Monarchs assisted David Kern in achieving the first half clean sheet, and the back line of Real Maryland FC looked top notch. Pittsburgh fullbacks played just ass well, and at the half the match was a scoreless deadlock.

The second half saw the scoring open up though with a Riverhound goal in the 56th minute when Randolph Jerome put away a rebound passed David Kern. Not long after Gary Brooks of the Monarchs found a header from Jeff Carroll and scored his first goal of the season, again locking the score up for the Monarchs, this time at 1-1.  But, when the final whistle blew, the Monarchs found themselves behind in a 2-1 score.

Saturday’s game will be played at the home of Real Maryland FC, Richard Montgomery High School’s Lester Stadium at 6 pm.
