D.C. United goalkeeper Zach Wells rumored to be retiring

reportedly retiring from professional soccer. The five-year MLS veteran who has played with New York, Houston, and United lost the starting job last season after being slowed by a foot injury and some poor form. His contract option was exercised by United this season, but Wells, 27, has struggled recouping from off-season foot surgery, and also faces the real likelihood of being only the number-three keeper headed into the 2009 season.
