Real Maryland FC has succesful tryout, expects to make signings

27 Jan, 2009

Real Maryland FC continued it's off season search for players last Saturday, when they held an open tryout at the Maryland SoccerPlex near Germantown. The team had a great turnout and was able to field three full teams of graduated college players, professionals and internationals. Some players traveled cross-country to make an appearance in front of first year coach Anthony Hudson. "The standard was certainly the best so far," said Hudson on the quality of the session. "That really helps us make accurate assessments of the players."

Conditions were not ideal for training, but that did not keep a couple of the Monarch’s already signed prospects from getting some work in. Sean Rush, a new signee, laced up despite the 20 degree weather. "It's always good to come out and get a run in no matter what it's like out, though it is a little different than what I am used to." Rush joins Real Maryland FC off a 6 month stint in Brazil, and is very excited about this season, saying, "It's good to be back in the states, especially to be with the Monarchs."

The roster has yet to be determined, but Hudson plans to finalize his squad over the next couple of months. "There were certainly 4 or 5 players on the day that are extremely interested in signing," said Hudson. The team looks to field a young, yet effective line up to help power them through the ranks of the USL’s Second Division.
