McTavish re-signs with D.C. United

28 Jan, 2009

D.C. United has re-signed defender Devon McTavish. In a season that saw a host of lineup changes from the previous year, McTavish was one of the most versatile players on the squad, playing 26 games and tallying a goal and four assists. Per team and League policy, terms of the agreement were not released.

"Devon has been a solid contributor for our club over the past three years, and we are pleased to have finalized a contract that will see him continue playing at D.C. United,” said United General Manager Dave Kasper. “He has been a key part of two MLS Supporters’ Shields and a U.S. Open Cup championship, and we look forward to his future contributions to our club.”

McTavish began the 2008 season as a right midfielder and scored three goals in the team’s first two Champions’ Cup games.  As injuries decimated the team, he was then used as a central back, defensive midfielder and right midfielder. He finished the League season with a goal and four assists in 26 games (25 starts).

In all competitions, McTavish tallied four goals and five assists in 42 games (40 starts). In 2007, the Winchester, Virginia native made 22 appearances (20 starts) and totaled 1,825 minutes on the pitch as one of the most adaptable players on the team. McTavish made five first-team appearances (three starts) in 2006, logging a total of 265 minutes on the pitch. He also contributed to the reserve team, making eight appearances (seven starts), as the team put together a 6-5-1 record.
