United out of SuperLiga after 3-1 loss to Houston

20 Jul, 2008

A shorthanded D.C. United squad could not produce the upset they needed against Houston Dynamo on Saturday night, securing their place in the SuperLiga semifinals with a clinical 3-1 victory at stifling RFK Stadium thanks to goals from Ricardo Clark, former United mainstay Bobby Boswell and second-half sub Stuart Holden.

United rested several starters, was without others due to injury, and had a long shot at best to advance even if they won the game by enough goals to overcome a goals differential. The win by Houston put them through to the semifinals, where they'll play defending SuperLiga Champions, Pachuca FC Tuesday, July 29 in Houston. The New England Revolution will play Atlante FC on July 30th. The winners will face off Tuesday, August 5th, with a $1 million first prize on the line (from which MLS players on the winning team would share just $150,000).
