Crystal Palace nearly ends Revolution in Open Cup

Crystal Palace Baltimore, the 2nd year team playing in the United Soccer League Second Division, nearly upset defending Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Champion, and 2007 MLS Cup Finalist New England Revolution on Tuesday night in Connecticut. Playing to a 1-1 draw through regulation and overtime, it took a five out of five Penalty Kick performance by New England and great save by former D.C. United goalkeeper Doug Warren to beat the spirited team playing two tiers below their MLS opponents.

After beating the New York Red Bulls the week before in Annapolis, Palace were not intimidated by the MLS status of their foe, and proved they could play with the big dogs with a gutsy performance. Ironically, a win would have pitted the club in a local battle against quarterfinal winners D.C. United at RFK next month.
