D.C. United return four-goal favor to Real Salt Lake
27 Apr, 2008D.C. United snapped out of their early MLS season slump with an emphatic 4-1 victory over visiting Real Salt Lake at RFK stadium Saturday night in front of over 23,000 fans. Jaime Moreno scored twice and assisted two other world class goals, including a one-time smash volley by the $1.9 million Designated Player Marcelo Gallardo.
After playing six games in 20 days to open the 2008 season, United needed the nine day rest they received leading up to this match. The win avenges the embarrassing 4-0 loss to the same Real team back in Utah just two weeks prior. With the win, the feeling around the United camp is that their MLS season has finally started. Considering that their record through the first five games this year is better than last year at the same point, and that they went on to take the 2007 MLS Supporters Shield with the best overall record in the league nevertheless, there is ample reason for the optimism.
