Baltimore Blast win first playoff game against New Jersey
11 Apr, 2008The Baltimore Blast defeated the New Jersey Ironmen, 22-10, in Game One of the MISL Quarterfinals Thursday night at 1st Mariner Arena. Game Two will be Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Prudential Center in Newark.
Machel Millwood picked up where he left off in the regular season, leading the Blast with eight points on the night (three goals and two assists) and P.J. Wakefield added a three-point goal and a two-point goal (five points).
The Ironmen scored in the second minute of the game to go ahead 2-0 before Giuliano Celenza and Wakefield scored back-to-back three-pointers to put Baltimore on top, 6-2 to end the first quarter.
With the game tied at 6-6 in the second quarter, Baltimore's offense came alive, recording six consecutive goals against former U.S. National Team goalkeeper Tony Meola and jumping out to an 18-6 lead. Lucio Gonzago and Millwood scored late in the game to increase the Blast's lead and cement the Game One victory.
If the Blast wins Game Two they will host the Milwaukee Wave on Wednesday, April 16 at 7:05 p.m. at First Mariner Arena in downtown Baltimore.
