Under Armour: Tottenham Hotspur mulling Baltimore, L.A. for U.S. summer tour

26 Jan, 2012

English Premier League heavyweights Tottenham Hotspur are considering an exhibition match in Baltimore this summer as part of a preseason tour of the United States, according to a Thursday report in the Baltimore Business Journal.

M&T Bank Stadium, the downtown home of the NFL's Baltimore Ravens which previously hosted well-attended international friendly matches in 2009 and 2010, would host the event, which is expected to take place in July. Spurs apparently see Baltimore and Los Angeles as leading contenders to become destinations on what would be a three-city tour of North America.

Tottenham are set to begin a multi-year partnership with Baltimore-based apparel manufacturer Under Armour, whose spokeswoman, Diane Pelkey, confirmed the possibility of the tour to BBJ staff.

Based in North London, Spurs have long been one of the most popular clubs in soccer-mad England and are currently enjoying one of their best seasons in decades, sitting in third place in the EPL standings, eight points behind league leaders Manchester City.

If they maintain or improve their current position, Spurs would qualify for the UEFA Champions League, Europe's lucrative and world-renowned regional club competition.
