Eddie Pope to head player relations for union in Bethesda

8 Jan, 2008

Former D.C. United hero and eleven-time MLS All-Star Eddie Pope has been named director of player relations for the MLS Player Union. He has appeared in three World Cups for the U.S. national team and represented the United States at the 1996 Olympics. Among his duties to oversee all player communications and relations, Pope will have a hand in negotiating a collective bargaining agreement to replace the current deal, which is due to expire at the end of the 2009 season. With MLS players earning less than $15,000 per year in some cases, the negations for a new agreement are expected to focus on player pay as the league is in a much better financial position than when the prior agreement was negotiated.
