D.C. United falls to Crew, 2-1, after dramatic late goals in U.S. Open Cup semifinals
2 Sep, 2010After taking an early lead with a goal from Pablo Hernandez (who received a red card in the 59th minut), D.C. United looked like they would turn around this dismal season and cruise into the 2010 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Columbus Drew spoiled their party with a shocking comeback in their 2-1 overtime win over the Black-and-Red in the semifinal match Wednesday night at RFK Stadium.
United defender Marc Burch deflected Andy Iro\'s shot past his own goalkeeper, Bill Hamid, in the 89th minute to tie the game and send it into extra time. Guillermo Barros Schelotto then put home the game-winner on a penalty kick in OT to advance to the finals.
