D.C. United's Branko Boskovic called into Montenegro national team

26 Aug, 2010

D.C. United midfielder Branko Bošković has been called into the Montenegro national team for two upcoming Euro 2012 qualifying matches.  Bošković will represent his country September 3 against Wales and September 7 at Bulgaria.  His side will compete in the qualifying as a part of group G, alongside Bulgaria, England, Switzerland and Wales.

Bošković will be available for selection by Interim Head Coach Ben Olsen in this weekend’s League match at Chivas USA, before departing for Europe.  Kickoff for that match is set for 10:00 p.m. ET Sunday, August 29 before a nationwide television audience on ESPN2.  Bošković will return to United prior to the September 11 match at Toronto FC.

Signed as a Designated Player on June 14, Bošković has appeared in six League matches (four starts) and played 336 minutes for the Black-and-Red.  He joined United from Rapid Vienna, one of the most successful sides in the Austrian Bundesliga, where the left-footed player made 104 appearances from 2007-2010.

At the international level, Bošković made his debut for Yugoslavia on March 27, 2002 in a friendly against Brazil. With Serbia-Montenegro (the former Yugoslavia), he appeared a total of 12 times, scoring once.  With the formation of Montenegro, Bošković was selected to the country’s independent national side, playing for his nation for the first time against Hungary in March of 2007. Overall, Bošković has one goal in 18 caps for Montenegro, for whom he has recently served as captain.
