talkSPORT: Bob Bradley has quit US Soccer post, denied by US Federation
13 Aug, 2010According to talkSPORT, and supported by a similar report from ESPN, USA Head Coach Bob Bradley has resigned his post stateside, and will indeed be hired as the new Manager of Aston Villa - a move that has been rumored for nearly a week after the shock resignation of Martin O\'Neill.
[Updated: Upon the news out of the UK, US Soccer Federation officials have flat out claimed the report as untrue, and that negotiations continue on the potential renewal of Bradley\'s contract, which is due to expire December, 31st.
"The reports that Bob Bradley has resigned are not true," said spokesman Neil Buethe in the statement to media. "U.S. Soccer officials plan to continue discussions with Bob in the near future."]
The "Villains" are owned by American Randy Lerner, who is said to be a huge fan of Bradley\'s work with the US Men\'s National Team, which the New Jersey native lead to a Gold Cup championship, a finals appearance at the FIFA Confederations Cup, and the second round of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, by way of winning their group; a group which included England.
If true, official news is likely to surface today, as the Birmingham based club founded in 1874 opens their Premier League season tomorrow hosting West Ham - though Bradley is not expected to arrive in time, with reports claiming an announcement and welcoming ceremony planned for next week.
Bradley would join American goalkeepers Brad Friedel and Brad Guzan, whose status in the locker room would likely ease the transition to a new "gaffer" for the talented roster.
Bradley will need all the help he can get on the credibility front, as despite his strong record at the helm of the US National Team, neither he, nor any other American has ever lead a top flight team in Europe. Like John Harkes, the first American to ever play in England\'s top flight, and other top American talent in the past however, there has to be a trailblazer, and win or lose, such an appointment certainly would mark a new era for the American coaching establishment.
