Washington Freedom battles Sky Blue FC to 1-1 draw

Washington Freedom (5-8-6, 21 points) traveled to New Jersey to face defending WPS champions Sky Blue FC (6-8-4, 22 points) at Yurcak Field and came away with a point for the 1-1 draw.

The first half of play was very competitive play with chances at both ends, but came to an end knotted at 0-0.

The second half started with Freedom maintaining possession of the ball. In the 65th minute, midfielder Sarah Huffman sent a cross into the center of the box where Sonia Bompastor was able to put the ball into back of the net. Bompastor\'s goal put the Freedom up 1-0 over the home team.

Sky Blue FC did not take long to equalize. In the 80th minute Sky Blue FC managed to tie the game off of an own goal from Washington. This 1-1 score held as the final, giving both teams a point in the WPS standings.
