World Cup Quarterfinal results:
Argentina 0:4 Germany - Germany destroyed tournament favorites Argentina and put on a goal-scoring display. Miroslav Klose, in his 100th international game, scored two to put him tied for second-most (14) in World Cup history. Thomas Mueller (who got a yellow card and will miss the next game) got the Germans off to a great early start with a header goal off of a free kick in the 3rd minute. Arne Friedrich also joined in the fun, getting his first ever international goal in the 74th minute. Bastian Schweinsteiger had an impressive showing, helping to create almost all of the German chances. The Argentinians never had any great opportunities on goal, and the German defense did a good job of shutting down Lionel Messi. Germany becomes the first team ever to win by 3+ goals in the Round of 16 and Quarterfinals. Who can stop this young, selfless team in great form? Video highlights are below:
Paraguay 0:1 Spain - Spain advances to their first ever World Cup Semifinal with the win over Paraguay. In a crazy game with a goal called back and two penalty kicks awarded (one saved, one made but called back and the subsequent kick saved), David Villa became the hero with the game-winning goal late in the game. The initial shot hit off the post and bounced to Villa, who rocketed a shot off the far post, which then traveled across the goal line, hit the other post, and went in to send Spanish fans into a frenzy. Villa now leads the World Cup with the most goals (5). Check out Villa\'s goal below:
