PSW's Daily World Cup Update: Saturday, June 19, 2010 [VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS]
19 Jun, 2010
We are now into the second round of matches within the group stage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and the goal count is going up as the nerves begin to relax. We\'ve seen traditional powers starting to fall (Spain and France). Will we continue to see the underdog prevail?
See below for Day 9 results and recaps (including video highlights), a preview of Day 10, news from around the tournament, group standings, World Cup viewing parties in the metro DC area, and a TV schedule for the upcoming week.
Be sure to check out our latest column, \'Soccer, the American Way\' by PSW\'s Joe Dougherty about how soccer and the World Cup is perceived in the U.S.

Day 9 Results and Recaps:
Netherlands 1:0 Japan - Wesley Sneijder hit a beautiful one-touch shot from distance in the 53rd minute to give Netherlands their second win of the tournament. Japan played solid defense throughout, but eventually the Dutch broke through. Dirk Kuyt almost had what would have been the goal of the tournament when he made solid contact on a bicycle kick, only to have a Japanese defender block the shot. Japan also had their chances, with substitute Shinji Okazaki barely missing over the crossbar in the waning minutes of the game. The win gave the Netherlands a new record of ten straight victories in World Cup qualifiers and finals matches. [+ VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS]
Ghana 1:1 Australia - Australian forward Brett Holman scored early in the game after GK Richard Kingson couldn\'t hold on to a free kick. Holman got to the rebound and put it in the back of the net in the 11th minute to give the Australians a much-needed boost after their awful first game against Germany. The Socceroos didn\'t celebrate for long, as Harry Kewell was given a red card in the 24th minute that was not deserved. Kewell was standing on the goal line and the ref called an intentional hand ball to block a shot on goal. In the replay, it was obvious the ball hit his chest or shoulder, was unintentional, and most definitely did not deserve a red card. Asamoah Gyan converted the resultant penalty kick to clinch the draw. [+ VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS]
Cameroon 1:2 Denmark - Cameroon lost for the second time, clinching their elimination from the tournament after the group round. Samuel Eto\'o got his first goal of this World Cup, but the lead wouldn\'t last long as Nicklas Bendtner tied it in the 33rd. Dennis Rommedahl got the game-winner after a great individual effort and well-placed shot in the 61st minute. While the Danes are still in contention, their defense left a lot to be desired. They made poor decisions and gave up opportunities that better teams will make them pay for. [+ VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS]
Looking Ahead to Day 10:
Group F takes center stage as Slovakia takes on Paraguay in the early game and defending champions Italy battles New Zealand. Tournament favorites Brazil will face off against Didier Drogba and Ivory Coast in the late game.
