D.C. United’s Rodney Wallace undergoes successful surgery

10 Jun, 2010

D.C. United defender Rodney Wallace has undergone successful surgery to fixate his fractured left fibula.  Dr. Andrew Parker of Commonwealth Orthopedics in Herndon, Virginia performed the procedure. Wallace will miss 8-12 weeks of action, depending on his rehabilitation and bone healing process.  Wallace suffered the initial injury on June 5 against Real Salt Lake as the left back contested a ball with Alvaro Saborio in the 24th minute of play.

Selected sixth overall in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, Wallace impressed in his first season with United. The former University of Maryland player featured on the left side of midfield and in defense for the Black-and-Red, notching three goals and three assists in 28 League contests (25 starts). In 2010, Wallace has made the left back position his own, starting all 11 matches of the season for United at that spot, tallying 924 minutes on the pitch prior to his injury.
