Baltimore Blast claim 'Fabinho' off waivers for playoff push, host KiXX tonight

5 Mar, 2010

Baltimore Blast have claimed Fabio "Fabinho" Ribeiro off waivers for defensive support prior to another playoff run. Ribeiro, who is not expected to play for the Blast this weekend, started the season with the Rockford Rampage. The Blast will host the Philadelphia KiXX tonight and the Monterrey La RaZa tomorrow night.

Ribeiro played in 13 games this season for the Rampage, scoring one three-point goal and recording 14 blocks before he was waived earlier this week. Prior to joining the Rampage, Ribeiro spent four seasons with the Chicago Storm and one season each with the Kansas City Comets and Dallas Sidekicks. In four seasons with the Storm he played in 76 games and earned 65 points (21 goals and 20 assists) and blocked 80 shots. He began his MISL career with the Sidekicks in 2003-04 and before that played professional outdoor soccer in Brazil and was a member of the Brazilian National Futsal Team (1996-99), helping Brazil win the International Futsal championship in 1999.

The Blast, 8-7 on the season and in third place, will host the Philadelphia KiXX tonight and the Monterrey La RaZa tomorrow night. Tonight is Hope4Life Sports Legends night featuring Sam Jones and Wali Jones. Pat Ercoli and Cris Vaccaro will be inducted into the Baltimore Blast Hall of Fame tomorrow as part of the team\'s 30th anniversary celebration that will include several former Blast and Spirit players attending the game against La RaZa.
