MMSL clubs flex their muscles in Stewart Cup opening round
11 Jan, 2010The Maryland Amateur State Cup (Stewart Cup) kicked off on Sunday, January 10 and Maryland Major Soccer League (MMSL) clubs went 5-0 versus clubs from other Maryland State Soccer Association affiliated leagues from around the state.
In the 11am game, Tir Na Nog Mundo FC defeated the Maryland Kicks from the Cosmopolitan Soccer League (CSL) by a score of 5-0. The Md Kicks were coming off a 2nd place finish in the Fall CSL season. Baltimore Bays Chelsea trounced the CSL champion DC Flames by a score of 9-1 and Select FC easily disposed of CSL club Real Mex by a score of 5-0.
Jilly\'s Bar and Grill (formerly Hangover Utd) defeated Bushwallers FC 5-2, who recently finished in 2nd place in the Fall Mason Dixon League. Finally, Christos SC defeated MYSA U17 squad Bethesda Juventos by a score of 6-0.
In other Stewart Cup 1st round action, MMSL Champions League side Charm City FC easily defeated MMSL 2nd division side AEK Baltimore by a score of 6-0. Finally, in what is turning into a rivalry, MMSL 2nd Division champs and DiMarco Cup champs, Portside Tavern defeated MMSL Champions League side and Steffen Cup champions FC Allyance by a score of 2-0.
The Stewart Cup quarterfinals will resume on Sunday, January 24 featuring 7 MMSL clubs:

Jilly\'s Bar & Grill vs. Charm City FC
Mizo United (CSL) vs. Baltimore Bays Chelsea
