FC Allyance wins MMSL's Fritz Steffen Champions Cup

13 Dec, 2009

Like the weather, FC Allyance poured on the goals on Charm City FC to win the 2009 Maryland Major Soccer League\'s Fritz Steffen Champions Cup by a score of 6-1.

During the MMSL Champions League regular season, Charm City had the better of FC Allyance, but today in the Cup final, in the driving rain, FC Allyance finished their chances and claimed the Cup championship

FC Allyance defeated two league champions on their way to winning the Fritz Steffen Champions Cup.  Prior to the victory over fellow Champions League side Charm City FC, in the Steffen Cup quarterfinals Allyance narrowly defeated 2009 Champions League winner Baltimore Bays Chelsea.  In the semi-finals, FC Allyance needed overtime to defeat 2nd Division Champion Portside Tavern.

With the MMSL regular season and cup competitions over, MMSL will now turn their attention to the Maryland State Cups and US National Cups.

About the Fritz Steffen Champions Cup

The Fritz Steffen Champions Cup is the most prestigious of the three Maryland Major Soccer League competitions   The Steffen Cup features the top four finishers from the MMSL\'s Champions League (1st - 4th), the champions and runner-up from the MMSL\'s 1st Division, and the champions and runner-up from the MMSL\'s 2nd Division.  The ultimate goal for a MMSL club is to win the Double by winning both the league regular season championship along with winning the Fritz Steffen Champions Cup. The 2009 MMSL Fritz Steffen Champions Cup participants were:

Champions League: Baltimore Bays Chelsea (Champion), Christos SC (runner-up), Charm City FC (3rd), and FC Allyance (4th)

1st Division: JA Raiders (Champion) and Baltimore Kickers (runner-up)

2nd Division: Portside Tavern (Champions) and Vybez United (runner-up)

The Cup is named after Fritz Steffen.  Fritz was a longtime player, coach, and administrator with the Baltimore Kickers.  Fritz was also active with the Maryland State Soccer Association and US Adult Soccer Association.  Fritz was elected to the Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame in 1999.
