Baltimore Bays Chelsea win adult Maryland Major Soccer League

The Baltimore Bays Chelsea won the 2009 Maryland Major Soccer League, Champions Division with 34pts and an 11-1-2 (w-d-l) record. After stumbling out of the gate with a 4-0-2 start, the Bays finished the season 7-1-0 including a clinching 3-1 victory over 2nd place Christos in the final week of the season.  Christos finished in 2nd place 5ts off the pace with 29pts (9-2-3) followed by Charm City FC\'s 28pts (9-1-4).

JA Raiders won the MMSL 1st Division with an undefeated (38pts) 12-2-0 season.  JA Raiders earn promotion to the the MMSL Champions League for the 2010 season.  JA Raiders edged out the Baltimore Kickers who finished a strong campaign with 34pts (11-2-1).  The Kickers still have a chance to earn promotion to the Champions League for 2010 as they battle Champions League 7th place finisher Towson Ice in the promotion/relegation game on Tuesday, November 17 at Catonsville HS. Portside Tavern won the MMSL 2nd division with an undefeated (40pts) 13-1-0 season and earn promotion to the MMSL 1st Division.

With the 2009 MMSL season concluded, Clubs now prepare for the post-season Cups before the State and National Tournaments which start in January.

About the Maryland Major Soccer League
The Maryland Major Soccer League, Inc. (MMSL), is the premier amateur adult soccer league in the State of Maryland and one of the premier adult soccer leagues in the United States.  The MMSL is a member of the Maryland State Soccer Association, United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), United States Soccer Federation (USSF),  and the Federation International Football Association (FIFA).  As a USASA member league, MMSL players are covered by USASA secondary medical insurance and are eligible to particupate in State and National Cup competitions including the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.  The MMSL and predecessor leagues are home to clubs which have achieved national success including:

* 2005 USASA National Open Cup Champion - Baltimore Colts FC
* 2005 USASA National Amateur Cup Finalist - Allied S.C. 
* 2002 USASA National Amateur Cup Finalist - Baltimore Colts FC
* 1958 US Open Cup National Finalist - Baltimore Pompei S.C.
* 1943 National Challenge Cup Finalist - Baltimore Santa Maria S.C.
* 1940 US Open Cup Co-Champion - Baltimore S.C.

The MMSL dates back to 1965.  Predecessor leagues to the MMSL include the Baltimore Major League and Baltimore Unlimited League dating back to the early 1920\'s.  From the 1920\'s - 1960\'s, games were often played at Patterson Park, Latrobe Park, and Kirk Fields in Baltimore City.  Current MMSL club, the Baltimore Kickers (MMSL Champions 1970 and 1997), have been in existence for the entire 43 year history of the MMSL.

The MMSL is currently comprised of three divisions (Champions, First, and Second) with promotion and relegation.  The MMSL season runs from August through December with simulataneous cup competitions.  Matches are played throughout central Maryland.  For more than 40 years, the MMSL remains home to the highest level of amateur soccer in the State of Maryland.
