Charm City FC wins Copa D.C. IX indoor soccer tournament

9 Nov, 2009

Charm City FC ended La Mara's string of eight consecutive Copa D.C. tournament championships, winning the annual 6v6 event, hosted by D.C. United. The favored La Mara were downed in a low-scoring affair (by indoor standards) 3-2, giving Charm City their first title and only the second team to ever win the event.

For their victory, the team earned first prize money of $3,000, a first place trophy, gold medals for everyone on the team, and a free entrance into next year’s Copa D.C. X.

The tournament featured sixteen elite teams from the greater Washington D.C. and Baltimore area. Each team played three group stage matches on November 7, with the top eight teams then advancing to the knockout phase. The quarterfinals, semi-finals, and finals were held on November 8 at the Rockville SportsPlex.

Citron Sports Boys and Cochabamba finished third and fourth, respectively.
