Aegean Hawks FC down Baltimore Colts FC 3-2 in Region 1 Quarters
5 May, 2008With a hard-fought win in New Jersey just a week prior, the Hawks continued their quest for their second US Open Cup final round appearance in two years with a hard fought 3-2 win over Maryland Champion Baltimore Colts FC at Bretton Woods Country Club. The Hawks will now face either a team from NY or PA in the semifinals on May 18th, with the winner earning a berth into the national phase of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup as one of two amateur team entries from Region I.
Before that match however, the Hawks travel to Philadelphia for the Amateur Cup Regional Quarterfinal match on May 11th against the United German Hungarians of PA. The Amateur Cup, as the name suggests, is open only to amateur teams that are members of the United States Adult Soccer Association, while the US Open Cup begins with amateur teams in the qualifying stages, but adds professional teams – including eight from Major League Soccer - in later rounds. The Colts are also in the Amateur Cup and, if both teams win, a second meeting between the two sides will be sure to provide as much drama as the first.
