Baltimore Colts FC to represent Maryland in U.S. Open Cup

3 Mar, 2008

The Baltimore Colts FC advanced to the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) Region 1 round of the U.S. Open Cup after shutting out Maryland Allyance FC 4-0.  Two first half goals by Kyle Sterling - both on corner kicks servied by Mike Lotocki - got the Colts rolling. Bill Whittington then made it 3-0 on an assist from Guil Costa, while Lotocki capped his 2-assist game with a goal of his own to ice the game by half time.

In addition to this impressive win at this stage of the Open Cup, the same Colts are also still alive in U.S. Amateur Cup play. The Maryland finals for that competition will take place March 9th, and will pit the Colts against Baltimore Bays 91.  The winners of the Maryland qualifiers for both the Open Cup and Amateur Cups advance against Region I opponents, beginning in mid-April

In other MSSA news, AC United came back to beat Towson Ice 3-1 to advance to the final of the Stewart Cup.  Luke Strutt, JC Cole and Joe Sladek scored for United. They will await the winner of the other semifinal between the Colts and Hangover United, which will be scheduled next month.
