Aegean Hawks win “La Super Copa” in penalty kicks

Aegean Hawks, representing the Washington Premier League, captured D.C. United’s “La Super Copa”, with a thrilling penalty kick shootout victory over Victoria from the Manassas Soccer League this past Saturday at the RFK Stadium Auxiliary Field.

After the teams battled to a hard fought 3-3 draw at the conclusion of the 90-minute regulation, Aegean prevailed in the deciding penalty kick shootout.  This is the Hawks\' first Super Copa crown.  In addition to the Cup, Aegean received a cash prize of $5,000 while the runner-up Victoria took home $2,000 and both teams received individual medals.

The Aegean Hawks had advanced to the final by defeating Brickman in the first round, Deportivo Canilla in the quarterfinals and Juventus de Suitland in the semis.  Meanwhile, Victoria reached the championship game by eliminating last year’s champion La Chapin in the first round, AV Challenge in the quarterfinals and Tiataco in the semifinals.

“La Super Copa” tournament featured 16 elite adult teams from local amateur leagues and all participating teams received one D.C. United match ball and a full set of 20 new adidas team uniforms.  All participating teams were required to have won the championship in their local league.
