D.C. United supports America Supports You Freedom Walk

7 Sep, 2007

Third annual Freedom Walk held September 9 to honor September 11 victims

Washington, D.C. (September 7, 2007) - D.C. United announced today it will support  the third annual America Supports You Freedom Walk. The event is scheduled for Sunday, September 9, 2007, before United\'s 3:00 p.m. home game against New England Revolution at RFK Stadium. The Freedom Walk is held to honor the victims of September 11, reflect on our freedom, and pay tribute to our veterans, past and present. The walk begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Lincoln Memorial, proceeds across Memorial bridge to the Pentagon crash site, and concludes with a memorial concert at 11:00 a.m. featuring the world famous Harlem Gospel Choir.

"As partners with America Supports You, D.C. United encourages its fans and the
community to support our Armed Forces and honor veterans and 9/11 victims by
participating in the Freedom Walk before the game," D.C. United Executive Vice
President Stephen Zack said.

In 2005, Pentagon employees created the America Supports You Freedom Walk to commemorate the attack on the Pentagon and honor all lives lost on September 11. What began as a small gesture has become a new national tradition. Last year, over 135 Freedom Walks of all types and sizes were held across the U.S. to honor the victims of September 11, reflect on the freedoms we have in America, and pay tribute to our veterans, past and present. Additional local Freedom Walks will be held across America from September 8-11 in cities, workplaces and schools. Anyone is welcome to host or organize a Freedom Walk, or participate in a walk in his or her
local community.
