Washington Freedom partner with six area youth clubs

13 Apr, 2009

The Washington Freedom have reached partnership agreements with six clubs – McLean Youth Soccer, Bethesda Soccer Club, Prince William Courage, Freestate Soccer Alliance, Hampton Roads Piranhas and Pachuca FC.

As a professional team in the Washington D.C. area, the Freedom can provide many different types of resources to area clubs and the team is always looking for ways to enhance its player development, coaches and programs. One of the ways to accomplish this is through partnerships with local teams and clubs.

McLean, Bethesda, Prince William and Freestate all fall under the affiliate partnership level. In exchange for supporting the Freedom by purchasing season tickets, these clubs receive coaching education from the Freedom and receive the first right to provide players for the Freedom’s Center of Excellence (Super Y-League) teams.

Hampton Roads is partnering with the Freedom as a local affiliate, serving as resources for each other. Both teams will help with the development of the other’s player pool (the Freedom will help identify players for the Piranhas W-League squad and the Piranhas will help identify players for the Freedom)along with the Piranhas also setting up exhibition, preseason and postseason matches for the Freedom. The Piranhas will also bring their youth club affiliate Beach FC to one or two Freedom home matches in order to provide the player development opportunity that WPS matches create.

Pachuca FC of Mexico is the first International affiliate of the Freedom. The Freedom will also work with Pachuca FC USA in Montgomery County. This agreement includes player exchanges between the clubs, coaching resource exchanges and International exhibitions in which the Freedom would travel to Mexico for matches and Pachuca FC would bring clubs from Mexico to face the Freedom. The Freedom and Pachuca FC USA will also launch a joint academy this spring.
