Virginia State ODP selections posted for boys and girls
11 Dec, 2008Following several months of regional training and events, as well as two recent state tryout weekends, the Virginia Youth Soccer Association has posted this year's lists of boys and girls state team player pools.
On the girls side, 194 players were named, with the largest group in the 1995 birth year at 52 players, seven more than the younger 1996 age group, and nearly twice as large as the 1992 player pool of 28. (Unlike US Youth Soccer league play, the ODP program organizes players by their calendar year birth date, not the August 1 - July 31 format most are accustomed to.)
On the boys side, 191 total players were selected in the same age groups of 1996-1992. The 1996 players lead the way with 50, just two more than the 1995 pool, and also nearly twice as large as the 26 total players making up the 1992 pool.
