Local student and MaxTouch collect soccer balls for Iraqi children

11 Nov, 2008

Army Master Sergeant Anthony Davis and the United States Armed Forces are doing many great things to help Iraq re-establish a working government.  He is part of Team Mustang, a Military Transition Team, or MiTT.  His team, in part, visits schools, assesses their supply and renovation needs, and then works with stateside sponsors to meet these needs.  In his own words however, while doing this work “we must not forget the everyday people of Iraq, especially the children.”  In response to a question from his daughter, Forest Park High School student Diana Davis, who was wondering how she could help Iraqi Children, Master Sergeant Davis suggested that she share something that she enjoys with the children.  Diana immediately thought of her love of soccer and suggested sending soccer balls.  Her Father agreed and a project was born.

Since Diana’s conversation with her father, she and her mother Anna have been collecting used soccer balls and shipping them to Iraq.  In addition, the Davis family has asked MaxTouch Soccer Academy to assist in the collection.  MaxTouch is therefore serving as a local drop-off point for anyone that has an old or used soccer ball that they would like to send to the children of Iraq.  The ball does not need to be inflated as we will deflate for shipping purposes.  Please bring your ball(s) to MaxTouch Soccer Academy in Woodbridge, at 14001 Crown Court (Behind BJ’s).  We have a large collection box which will serve as the main drop for the balls, and MaxTouch will be collecting balls through the spring.

Master Sergeant Davis has informed us that he is prepared to send photos and short recordings during the deliveries where personal and team security allows.  Team Mustang’s web address is www.mustangmitt.org.
