PSW Regional College Round-up and Predictions - POST SEASON EDITION

We are at the end of the season, and with that comes individual accolades and post-season excitement! While the men finish up their regular season matches this weekend, there are a number of local women's teams in the hunt for conference titles and bids in the NCAA tournament.

Read below to find out how local players are collecting college awards, how your favorite teams are faring in the post-season, and to see my weekend predictions. Let us know what you think on the

College Boasts
Senior forward Kwame Adjeman-Pamboe was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Soccer Player of the Week after an outstanding week in which the Bowie, Md. native scored a game-winning goal and assisted on two scores to help lead the Patriots to two crucial conference victories.

Senior forward Peter Grasso has been named to the Big East Men’s Soccer Honor Roll for the second time this season. Grasso is leading the squad in scoring with six goals and two assists on the year for 14 total points.

UMBC freshman forward Andrew Bulls (Millersville, Md./McDonogh) was a unanimous selection to the 2008 America East Conference Men’s Soccer All-Rookie Team. Bulls led UMBC with eight goals and 18 total points in his maiden season.

Howard's Matt Marshall, William Hubbard, Rotimi Iziduh and Guilherme Fonseca were named to the 2008 Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) All-Academic Team on Tuesday, as announced by the league office.

Towson Junior midfielder Brittany Hadaway (Institute of Notre Dame/Pasadena, Md.) has been named as a member of the All-Colonial Athletic Association women’s soccer third team. A three-year starter for the Tigers, Hadaway has started 54 of 55 career games and has scored three goals with two assists in her career.

VMI forward Olivia Moore earned Freshman of the Year honors while Bryan Williams earned Coach of the Year laurels as the Big South Conference announced its 2008 Women's Soccer Honors. Junior defender Audrey Falconi joins Moore on the First Team All-Conference listing, while senior defender Celine Ziobro was tabbed Second Team All-Conference.

ODU senior forward Katie Watson was named to the All-CAA First Team for the second time in her career and six other Lady Monarchs earned postseason honors. Watson was third in the conference in scoring (31 pts), tied for third in goals (12) and tied for fifth in assists (7).

Loyola College senior back Sarra Moller was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year and also earned All-MAAC honors with six of her teammates.

VCU Sophomore Laurel Pastor (Springfield, Va.) was named to the All-CAA First Team. Joining her as All-CAA honorees was the senior trio of Stephanie Power, Samara Stephen-Dowd (Vienna, Va.) and Megan Flanagan, who all were named to the Second Team. Pastor led the team with 9 goals and 20 points this season.

Navy's Lizzie Barnes and Shelly Moeller have been named the Patriot League Women's Soccer Goalkeeper and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively. This marks the second career player-of-the-year honor for each player.

Senior Lizzie Barnes and junior Shelly Moeller were tabbed as first-team All-Patriot League choices, The senior trio of Kristen Laraway, Julie Reynolds, and Carey Young (Virginia Beach, Va.) was joined by sophomore Carissa Youker (Potomac, Md.) on the conference's second-team.

Navy senior goalkeeper Lizzie Barnes has been named the 2008 Patriot League Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Barnes has a 3.86 grade point average as a double major in information technology and computer science

W&M senior back Abby Lauer (Oak Hill, Va.) was selected as CAA co-Defensive Player of the Year, headlining six William and Mary players who earned all-conference recognition on the eve of the CAA Championships.

After scoring the game-winner to help Navy clinch its seventh regular season league title Saturday at Colgate, senior captain Julie Reynolds earned ECAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors. The shutout victory secured the No. 1 seed and hosting privileges for the Mids in the Patriot League Tournament.

George Washington freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Rowe (Richmond, VA/Godwin) was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team. Rowe started all 19 matches and played 1732-of-1741 minutes in goal for the Colonials this season, stopping a league-best 104 shots.

The Radford women had four Big South All-Conference selections: Caitlyn Roan (Virginia Beach, Va.), McKenzie Vergara (Chester, Va.) and Lisa Lubke earned first team accolades. Ashley Johnson (Springfield, Va.) was named to the second team. Junior Jill Boyer (Severn, Md.) was selected to the Big South All-Academic squad.

Virginia senior defender Nikki Krzysik was named the 2008 ACC Defensive Player of the Year and five Cavaliers earned All-ACC honors. Krzysik played every minute this season to anchor a Cavalier defense that has posted 8 shutouts and allowed just 5.1 shots per game. She is also fourth on the team in scoring with three goals and three assists.

Loyola senior midfielder Lea Day was named to the SoccerBuzz Magazine National Team of the Week for her play in two Greyhounds wins last weekend to close the regular-season. Day, who was also named the MAAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, scored the game-winner in both Loyola games, a 2-0 victory at Marist and a 2-1 win at Siena.

VMI senior Megan Strand has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Soccer Player of the Week. The senior midfielder scored her fifth goal of the season against Presbyterian before assisting on all three of VMI's goals in a 3-2 overtime victory against Gardner-Webb on Senior Day.

Longwood University senior midfielder Maddie Stevens/Charles Town, W.Va. (Jefferson) has been named to the 2008 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 3 Women’s Soccer Third-Team. Stevens is one of just eight student-athletes from a Virginia school selected for the three District teams among 39 honorees overall.

William and Mary All-American Claire Zimmeck (Fairfax, Va.) earned her fifth major award of the week, garnering honors as ECAC co-Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals in the Tribe's 3-2 victory over Old Dominion last week. The award follows Zimmeck being named as the CAA co-Player of the Week and to the national teams of the week from Soccer Buzz, Soccer America, and Top Drawer Soccer.
