Brady's goal keeps Catholic men alive as they upset Drew, 1-0
5 Nov, 2008The CUA men's soccer team defeated Drew University on the Rangers' home turf in Wednesday's semifinal match-up, a feat that no other squad has been able to do for 27 games. Through pouring rain and tenacious Ranger defense, CUA's Matt Brady (Woodbridge, Va./Potomac) was able to find the back of the net to give the Cards the 1-0 victory.
The game winner was scored by Brady in the 35th minute of play. Matt Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass./Sacred Heart) chipped a ball over the Ranger defense, and Brady finished just inside the right post.
The second half saw Drew pour forward looking for the equalizer, but the Catholic defense bent without breaking. Drew outshot Catholic 12 to 4 and held the Cardinals without a shot in the second half, but a key clearance from Nick Sylvester (Riva, Md./DeMatha) and three saves from Quinn Daly (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine) gave the Cards helped keep the Cards in the clear.
CUA will face Susquehanna in the Landmark Conference championship on Saturday« Back to full list of Youth
