Loyola's Day earns National Women’s Soccer Team of the Week honors

4 Nov, 2008

Loyola senior midfielder Lea Day was named to the SoccerBuzz Magazine National Team of the Week for her play in two Greyhounds wins last weekend to close the regular-season.

Day, who was also named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week yesterday, scored the game-winner in both Loyola games, a 2-0 victory at Marist and a 2-1 win at Siena.

“This is a tremendous honor for Lea,” Head Coach Katherine Vettori said. “She had a great weekend, and it is part of a terrific career here at Loyola.”

She tallied both Greyhounds goals, in a span of less than 12 minutes, during the second half at Siena. Her first goal, a header off a Kelly Farrell cross, put Loyola ahead 1-0, and her second goal, a 35-yard blast, broke a 1-1 tie and provided the final difference.

Day is now second on the team with six goals this season, and she has scored the game-winners in three of Loyola’s last four wins. She also leads the MAAC with six goals since the start of conference play.
