PSW Regional College Round-up: October 31-November 2

4 Nov, 2008

College Boasts
Mount St. Mary’s Kyle Patrick has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week for the week of Oct. 24-Nov. 2 after he posted two goals and an assist for the Mount in the week. It is the freshman’s first conference honor.

VCU senior Francesca Gioeli was named CAA Co-Player of the Week. Knowing that last Thursday's game might be the last time she dons a Virginia Commonwealth University uniform, the veteran tallied a career-best three points, including the game-winner as the Rams defeated James Madison University, 2-1, in overtime.

Navy seniors Julie Reynolds and Lizzie Barnes have garnered Patriot League BRINE Women's Soccer Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week honors, respectively. This is the second career weekly honor for Reynolds and her first this season, while Barnes, now a six-time recipient over her career, earns the designation for a third-time this fall.

William and Mary All-American Claire Zimmeck (Fairfax, Va.) was selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week, four days after leading the Tribe to its third consecutive CAA regular-season title with a win over Old Dominion. This marks the third year in a row, and fifth time overall, that the senior has been selected as one of the top players in the nation by this organization. Zimmeck also earned CAA co-Player of the Week honors for the first time this fall, and the sixth time in her career.

PSW Men's Game of the Week:
An outstanding defensive effort coupled with an opportunistic score by senior forward Kwame Adjeman-Pamboe allowed the George Mason men’s soccer team to earn its third consecutive victory with a 1-0 shutout of first-place UNC Wilmington in the final home match of the regular season on Saturday evening at George Mason Stadium.

PSW Women's Game of the Week:
The sixth-seeded Hood College women's soccer team (10-7-2) upended the third-seeded Stevenson University Mustangs (11-5-4) 3-1 in a shootout Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. The Blazers become the first Hood women's team to ever win a CAC playoff game.
