Three Maryland teams win Region I Youth Championships

Of the 17 Maryland soccer club teams that traveled to Maine this past weekend (June 27 - July 1) to compete against the best teams in Region I for boys and girls in the U13 - U19 age groups, three came home as champions and 4 other teams advanced to the semi-final round.

The boys had 2 Region I Champions: The Baltimore Casa Mia Bays at U15 and Freestate United at U19. The girls champion was the U13 Bethesda Freedom.
The U15 Bays move on to US YOuth Soccer's National Championship Round to defend their national championship title won last year as U14s. Freestate United will join them. The Bethesda Freedom will not have the opportunity to compete for a national championship as the tournament limits the National Championship round to U14 - U19 age groups.

The Maryland teams that advanced to the semi-final round are for the Boys (U14 Baltimore Casa Mia Basy and U17 Baltimore Bays 91) and for the Girls (U15 FC Frederick and U16 Freestate Phoenix).

The National Round will be held in North Little Rock, Arkansas from July 22 - 27. The champions from each of the four Regions will play each other in the six age groups for boys and girls. The top two teams in each age group will then advance to the Championship game on Sunday, July 27.
