U.S. Women open Olympic Qualifying tonight in Mexico

4 Apr, 2008

The U.S. Women’s National Team is heading to Juarez, Mexico in the first steps towards defending their 2004 Athens Olympics gold medal. The six-team tournament, which is open to teams from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean, opens with round-robin group play. The top two teams from the two groups will advance to the single-elimination semifinals, and the semifinal winners will qualify for the Beijing Olympic tournament. The U.S. team opens against Jamaica tonight at 7:30, then will face Mexico on Sunday. The top four teams will then face off Wednesday in the semi-finals, with each winner earning a berth to China. The games are not available on TV, but can be followed on USSoccer.com’s Match Tracker.
