Fairfax school board approves redistricting plan for high schools

Fairfax County's school board passed a controversial redistricting plan Thursday night that could see siblings attending different high schools and competing against each other on the soccer field. The school system's plan will redistribute students among five high schools, Westfield, South Lakes, Oakton, and Chantilly. Many parents objected to the plan, saying it could split up families. The school board listened to 26 hours of public hearings on the matter, including 500 speeches. Current high school students will remain at their school through graduation.
