Arlington Soccer set to host 500+ teams for ASIST tourney
1 Mar, 2011The Arlington Travel Soccer Club, a program of the Arlington Soccer Association in cooperation with the Arlington County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources, is hosting the sixth annual Arlington Spring Invitational Soccer Tournament, March 4-6, 2011 and March 11-13, 2011 in Arlington, Virginia.
The mission of the Arlington Spring Invitational Soccer Tournament (ASIST) is to provide a first-class preseason competition for top-level travel club teams as they prepare for premier-level tournaments, state cup and league play. This year the tournament includes over 500 teams, involving some 4,500 players and their families from the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond.
Arlington County has the highest concentration of synthetic grass fields in the country. Exclusive use of synthetic fields allows the competition to take place regardless of the weather. There are separate weekends for boys (March 4-6) and girls (March 11-13) matches. The tournament is sanctioned by U.S. Youth Soccer and has become one of the most competitive youth soccer tournaments in Virginia.
ASIST is the largest annual youth sporting event in Arlington. Teams from around the D.C. metro area are playing in this tournament, one of the first competitive soccer events of the Spring season. Teams representing Richmond, Baltimore and Virginia Beach as well as Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Quebec are participating.
Arlington Soccer Association is a volunteer-based, nonprofit soccer organization of over 5,000 players whose mission is to develop and manage year-round affordable, quality soccer experiences for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds and to serve as the leader and advocate for the advancement of soccer in Arlington County and the City of Falls Church.
