Thirty local teams kickoff US Youth Region 1 Championships in West Virginia today

Even though U.S. soccer fans may not be following the world cup as closely since our team has been eliminated, there will be plenty of local area fans cheering on their club teams at this weekend’s US Youth Soccer Region I Championships being held in West Virginia.

The Region I Championships will feature top teams in the Under-12 through Under-19 age groups, kickoff with round robin games Friday, July 2, through Sunday, July 4. Semifinals are Monday, July 5. The US Youth Soccer Region I Champions will be crowned following final games on Tuesday, July 6.

The local area is well represented with 30 teams participating, 14 boys\' and 16 girl’s, hoping to become champions at the end of this Fourth of July weekend.

Games will be played at both Barboursville City Park (Fields 1-13, 15, 16, 18 & 19) and Scott Orthopedic Soccer Complex at the YMCA Kennedy Center (Fields 14, 17, 20 & 21). Semifinal and final games will be at Barboursville City Park.
