Many of these boys who go to private school will be playing HS soccer in the fall for the first time. Plus State Cup is now in the fall. A lot of these teams have not taken significant time off and this is an age where injuries can have a huge impact.
Celtic Green has a ton of talent -- if they can come together and keep their egos in check, they will probably be the team to beat. I wouldn't count Herndon, Annandale or Team America out of it. RFC has a lot of talent too, but their recent tournament performances have been lackluster. They have terrific coaching so I'd expect them to improve as the season progresses. Not sure how HS will affect the MD teams.
It is nice to see some of the lower teams getting an opportunity to move up rapidly with the many Maryland team sit-outs -- I would think the VA teams are best positioned to take advantage of this compared with the MD teams that remain. |

| High School soccer really impacted the divisions this year. Add the Academy League impact to things, will NCSL survive as a prominent league in Region 1? |

Probably.
With gas prices rising and people's finances tight, running all over to Academy practices and games might be too much to ask.
Unless you are one of the top 10 players in the entire area, it just isn't necessary to travel far. You can get what you need fairly locally -- depending on the age/gender, you can find quality coaching within 20 minutes. |

Okay, I have a question:
Who is the coach of the new RFC team and what where did all the players come from?
Here are my 1st - 3rd predictions for the top 3 divisions:
Division 1:
Celtic Green
ABGC United
HERN FC or Celtic White
Division 2:
ARL Generals
PWSI Courage '93 Red
ABGC United Bulldogs
Division 3:
LMVS Patriots
GSC Gunners
BAYS United |

| I think RFC and the McLean white will have a tough time. The real battle will be for state cup. Look for Herndon, SYA, and McLean green to fight it out. |

Prediction for DIV 4
CALV Barza Selecto
DCST Rockets
REST 93 United
These three teams have jumped from Div 6 to Div 5 to Div 4 together in the last three seasons and have had some very competitive games.
That said, like last year's Div 5 where 3 points separated the top five teams, this division will be very competitive with the 8 rising teams all capable of beating each other on a given day. |

Among Div. 1 teams, Team America is rarely mentioned, but this is an extremely strong and exciting team to watch. They just walked through the competition at the Olney Capital Cup. Granted it was the 2nd tier, but three other Div. 1 teams participated, so the competion wasn't shabby.
Herndon struggled in the top tier of Olney last weekend, which was won by Annandale, but it's the best team around. McLean Green looked green at Olney.
My top four:
1. Herndon
2. Annandale
3. Team America
4. SYA Nova
FSC United is the strongest Div. 2 team. |
