I'm looking for any input as to what college coaches are looking for when recruiting for Division 3 schools. Alot of the D3 college websites do not put the players accomplishments in High School and Club on their sites compared to the Division 1 schools.
I have had feedback from schools saying that they are only looking at the 2009 girls now and others saying that they are looking at the 2010 group.
It's very hard to see what they want in a player (h.s. and club accomplishments).
Any parents out there that have had this experience please reply!
Also, does it make a difference as to how successful their program is (i.e. Virginia Wesleyan, who has a very successful D3 program compared to a less successful program)?
At the one school I am most familiar with, which wasn't particularly strong, most of the players played lower-level travel. A few had played higher, but that was not the norm. Most had played high school, but few were impact players. Only a few could juggle a ball competently! (not that this is critical, but it gives you a sense of their background.)
The coaches were very interested in speed and fitness. If you are too slow, nothing else really mattered. On the other hand, the required speeds were 3-4 seconds slower than a D1 school requires.
Most did not have good first touches or movement off the ball. They had decent skill otherwise and could generally pass, dribble and shoot competently -- but only with their strong leg.
Aggressiveness was another big factor. The referees seem to not call much, so it does become a physical game, but size wasn't key, just the willingness to go for the ball.
Our player walked on from an ODSL team and ended up starting.
